Orthopedic Surgeon Heracles I. Patsopoulos, Director of the Sports Injuries Department at Mediterraneo Hospital, is a graduate of the Medical School of Athens and holds a doctorate from the University of Cologne. He is also the founder and responsible for the operation of Arthro-Athens.
Dr. Patsopoulos, a certified arthroscopist by the American Academy of Sports Medicine in hip, knee, ankle, shoulder, and elbow arthroscopy, is the creator of Irakine, a rehabilitation program for muscle strains and cartilage damage, similar to the famous Regenokine, which is implemented at Arthro-Athens. He is also the inventor of a patented method for Plastic Reconstruction of both parts of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament.
He has served as the team physician for various athletics, basketball, volleyball, football, water polo teams, and the "Dais" Sports Center. As the Medical Services Manager for AEK BC, he won a Greek Cup in the 2017-2018 season, the FIBA Champions League in 2017-2018, and the Intercontinental Cup in 2019 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. With Panellinios GS basketball team, he reached the Final Four of the Eurocup in the 2009-2010 season.
In joint replacement surgery due to osteoarthritis, he uses minimally invasive techniques, implanting new artificial joints with digital assistance, guided by the latest and most advanced robotic system, ROSA.
For cartilage damage, he employs all modern methods of chondroinduction in combination with Irakine, osteochondral grafting (mosaic-plasty), and the placement of scaffolds for cartilage cell attraction.
He is one of the few Orthopedic Surgeons in Greece with experience in hip arthroscopy, pioneering techniques in shoulder and ankle arthroscopy, and has been a leader for over 20 years in the treatment of knee pathologies.
